This coming Labor Day weekend is the perfect time to get out fly fishing.  The temperatures will have cooled with maybe even a little bit of rain.  This should overcome what has been lackadaisical fish activity during the dog days over the past several weeks.
In particular, gangs of silver salmon should show off our beaches any day now, hopefully this coming weekend.  They have been in a holding pattern from Westport to Swiftsure waiting for the cues that will tell them to migrate to inner Puget Sound.  These cues are length of day, water temperatures, and fresh water from rains. When they do start coming, they will come in spades headed as fast as they can to natal rivers and streams. They will be actively feeding until they get to their estuaries.  This will create perfect angling opportunities for beach fly anglers.  This coming weekend I would be fishing Point no Point during ideal tides that will occur early mornings or late afternoon into dusk.
The sea run cutthroating should also pick up this weekend with cooling waters.  The warm days and intensive sunlight over the past few weeks have pushed them into the deeper cooler waters. Remember: barbless  hooks and gentle handling are the this for these delicate fish. Hook and release and do not remove them from the water, even for pictures.
